About Hike Cascadia

Hike Cascadia helps readers compare day hikes around Portland, the Columbia River Gorge, Mount Hood, and Southwest Washington. The guides focus on practical choices: how much time and effort a route takes, where to start, and which access rules may affect the trip.

How we build our guides

We use managing-agency trail pages, official maps, and agency notices for route and access details. When an agency does not publish one definitive distance or elevation figure, we label planning estimates and explain their limits. The guides link to official sources so you can check the underlying information.

These are researched planning guides, not accounts of personal trail testing. Hike Cascadia makes editorial comparisons; land managers set trail rules and issue current notices.

What a checked date means

A checked date shows when time-sensitive details in a guide were reviewed. It is not a live trail-status report or a guarantee that conditions will be the same on your trip. We revisit guides when material access information changes, but you should check the managing agency’s latest alerts before leaving. Confirm road access, closures, weather, fire restrictions, fees, permits, and any rules that affect your group.
